Today we have a big announcement to make. We finally have the ability to show our prototype! It is fully assembled awaiting rigorous testing by our team. This is a monumental step in our development. It concludes months of hard work and dedication by the Awaken team.
Introducing the Awaken mushroom incubator (we are yet to decide on a name for our creation).
With the ability to control lighting, humidity, temperature and fresh air exchange, we are beyond excited to start the testing phases! Stay tuned for some in depth content as we finally grow some mushrooms.
As with any great innovation, we are constantly evolving and preparing for future iterations. With that being said, as we finish this chapter, we are preparing to write the next. Recently we have been in contact with a seasoned expert when it comes to growing mushrooms commercially. He was truly excited about our project and the prospects for the creation. He advised us that our current design can be improved. Since our prototype allows for heating/cooling, our current design does this by heating the air within the chamber after entering. Thus, as an example, if the outside air introduced into the chamber was around 18 degrees celsius and the desired temperature inside was 22 degrees celsius, that introduced air would have to be heated upon entry which initially would create a differential inside the chamber. Specific mushroom strains react badly to this temperature ‘shock’ and it has the potential to adversely affect yield. To combat this differential, we have been ideating on a new design feature that will ultimately allow for air intake to enter a pre-conditioning chamber before entering the main chamber where the mushrooms will sit. Surprisingly, this new design feature that we are working on has the ability to be a more cost effective design than our previous iteration.
